I am back home in the heat of North Hollywood after a beautiful week in the UK on tour. The shows totaled six in a seven day trip. But what a trip it was. London, Manchester, Liverpool. The audiences were appreciative and even with two acoustic guitars, this disco troubadour enjoyed getting the crowd moving. The sets were a mix of songs from my latest, ON THE REBOUND; along with a couple of choice covers. One golden oldie; one hot off the top of the charts.
Back to the audiences, I was thrilled to entertain all of you and meet so many of you. I love making people dance; it brings me joy. I hope that you will continue to follow my musical adventures. I will return to the UK and I anticipate making some new music this summer with an old collaborator. So more to come!
While in London, I visited the David Bowie Is exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Musuem. Fascinating and inspiring. Always is, to see handwritten lyrics, original stage costumes and concepts for album art all put into a historical, but vibrant context. Highly recommended. It does require tickets, but they can be purchased day-of, if you don't mind queuing early. I just purchased THE NEXT DAY (after listening to it several times on the plane, there and back); and Bowie's put some gems out for us on this record.
On tea. There were also plenty of opportunities to have tea, cream tea, traditional tea, high tea. Tea stops included Harrod's and Sketch in London; Leaf on Bold St. in Liverpool; Coffee Mill in Chester; and Pettigrew's at Cardiff Castle. All brilliant. Great scones and flavors. I'm a fan of the butter truffle at Leaf and Blend 49 at Harrod's. However, my favorite tea is the Polo Club... and I can only get it in London. American's need to get back to the idea of taking time for tea every afternoon. Perfect way to decompress and energize. Perhaps, I should become a tea sommelier?
I also got to pay a brief visit to Monmouth and Monnow Valley Studios where "A Talent For Loving" was recorded in the Summer of '06. Hard to believe seven years have gone by. It was great to see Jo and the manor; and spend a few sublime hours soaking in the Welsh countryside. I expect heaven to look a lot like Wales, if not Scotland.
So many people to thank behind the scenes for their support and love during this tour: David Bash, Patty Kelsey, Jason Bonham, Nigel Thomas, Terry Gray, Jo & Phil Riou, Adam Marsland, Jackie Casas, Andrew & Anne Smith, Cavern Tours, Rina Bardfield, and you!
Okay, here's a run down of each set list. As you can see, I tried to switch it up for each audience. The new material went over very well. I'm hoping to get some live video performances posted soon. The single performance of "Airport Kisses" was a tour highlight; as was the cover of Daft Punk's current "Get Lucky."
